  1. Chill a martini glass in the freezer for 5 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you make the drink.

  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, apple liqueur, apple juice and lemon juice.

  3. Shake hard for 15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold.

  4. Empty the ice water from the glass and strain the drink into it through a fine strainer.

  5. Fan the apple slices on the rim of the glass and serve at once.

A Few Notes

Use cloudy apple juice and not clear. It has a fuller, fresher apple taste and softens the artificial edge of the liqueur.

Shake hard with plenty of ice. The dilution is a part of the recipe, and a drink that is not cold enough tastes sugary.

Dip the apple slices in lemon juice and add them at the last minute. Cut apple browns within a few minutes. A Granny Smith gives the brightest green skin and the sharpest taste.

Storing and Reheating

Best made to order. It does not keep once shaken, and the ice in the shaker dilutes it if it stands.
