Tips for Making Hot Crab Dip
- Fold the crab in last and gently. Whole lumps are the point of the dish, and stirring hard breaks them down to a paste.
- Pick over the crab for shell. Even good crab meat has hidden fragments, and a piece in a dip is unpleasant.
- Serve it hot. It thickens and turns waxy as it cools, and a spoonful of warm dip is far better than a cold one.
Common Substitutions & Variations
- Out of spring onions? A small regular onion, finely sliced, or a few chives stirred in at the end both cover the job.
What to Serve with Hot Crab Dip
- Buttery crackers
- Toasted baguette slices
- Celery sticks
