The Short Version

No oven is needed. A slice like this is a crushed biscuit base held together with butter and condensed milk, then chilled until firm. It is a recipe that children can make, and that adults eat.

Crush the biscuits finely, in a bag with a rolling pin or in a food processor. Large pieces make the slice crumble when cut. The finer the crumb, the cleaner the slice.

The malted chocolate powder, such as Milo, gives a flavour like a malt milkshake. It dissolves a little into the condensed milk, so mix it well.

Press the mixture firmly into the tin, using the back of a spoon, then pour on the melted chocolate. Chill for at least 3 hours. Cut with a hot, dry knife for neat squares. A no-bake slice is among the easiest sweet things to make, and suits cooks who would prefer not to use the oven. Cut into small pieces, since the slice is rich, and keep it cool in warm weather.
