Why the Method Works
A birthday, a rainy Sunday, a party for the children: this is a milkshake for an occasion rather than a drink to have with lunch.
Use ice cream straight from the freezer, not softened, and add only enough milk to get the blades moving. The usual mistake is too much milk, which makes a thin drink that no one finishes. Start with 100 ml of milk and add more by the splash. A good shake should stay on a spoon for a second before it drops.
Break the biscuits by hand, or bash them in a bag. Blend most of them in, and keep a handful to fold in at the end so that the shake has pieces to chew rather than just a grey colour.
Pour into tall glasses, top with whipped cream and the last of the crumbs, and serve with a wide straw. Blend for only 20 to 30 seconds. Longer than that warms the mixture and thins it.
