How to Make B-52

Tap a step to highlight it, or turn on Cook Mode for large type and step-by-step focus.

  1. Chill a tall shot glass in the freezer for 5 minutes, and chill the bottles in the fridge if you can.

  2. Pour the coffee liqueur into the glass.

  3. Hold a bar spoon upside down just above the coffee liqueur, with the tip against the inside of the glass. Pour the Irish cream slowly over the back of the spoon so that it settles on top in a separate layer.

  4. Raise the spoon a little and repeat with the orange liqueur, pouring it very slowly to make the third layer.

  5. Serve at once, and drink it in one swallow.

Worth Knowing Before You Cook

Pour very slowly over the back of a spoon held against the glass. Fast pouring breaks through the layer below and the colours blend.

Chill the liqueurs first. Cold liqueurs are slightly thicker and layer more easily, and the shot tastes better cold.

Do not set the drink on fire. Flaming shots cause serious burns, and the alcohol in the top layer burns hot.

Storing and Reheating

Best made to order and drunk at once. The layers mix if the shot stands for long.
