About This Recipe
This is what to make for the first warm week of summer, when a bowl of something cold and creamy with crackers is all the cooking anyone wants to do. It takes five minutes and gets better after an hour in the fridge.
Leave the cream cheese out for 30 minutes so that it is soft. Cold cream cheese stays lumpy however hard you stir. Beat it with the soured cream until smooth, then stir in the chives, garlic powder, lemon juice and most of the seasoning. Save some seasoning for the top. The sprinkle on the surface is the part that people see, and it should look generous.
Taste and add salt only if it needs it, because the seasoning mix is already salty. Spoon into a bowl, sprinkle over the rest and chill for an hour.
Serve with crackers, pretzels, cucumber slices and carrot sticks, or spread on bagels.
